Petunia & Periwinkle

The latest additions to Little Doo's farm arrived in the wee hours of the morning from a farm just outside of Edmonton. Petunia (brown) and Periwinkle (black) are Dexter cattle and both are doing well and now adjusting to their new surroundings. Both are bred and expecting to deliver in May, an event I am very excited about. As you can see from the pasture picture we still have a considerable amount of snow although patches of earth are now popping through here and there. Once the snow melts and the ground thaws a new pasture will be sectioned off and a new shelter built for them. Hmmm add that to the "things to do list" #98 lol. Currently they are using the pasture reserved for the sheep. Chickens (layers) are arriving tomorrow and our first batch of 100 chicks (meat birds) will be arriving April 25th. A sure sigh that spring is just around the corner here.

We live in Salt Lake City- but just down the road from us there is a small goat farm. They sell goat milk, cheese, soap- and a few other things. We have never dabbled in thier products, just enjoy going on a short walk to see the animals. I guess they are expecting about 20 babies in a few weeks! They will be busy! Happy Monday. 3 月 27 日

You must, must, must post photos of the baby chicks when they arrive. That is the thing I miss most from my farming days is going to the hatchery and picking up our little ones. And gathering the eggs. Oh, I miss my girls so much! Colour me green with envy! I think one is a 4-H project. 2 pigs coming soon and not sure about meat birds we were suppose to be doing them this summer but if they are selling we may not do them.
